For nearly 50 years, customers have relied on LyondellBasell’s Hostalen high density polyethylene for their potable water pipe applications. It all began with one application, and quickly grew into an extensive business of supplying resins for all types of customer pipe applications.
Lupolen polyethylene resins have been specified by our customers for cross-linked pipe since the 1970s. Our PEX resins are approved for both cold and hot water supply.
According to extrapolation methods described in the standard ISO 9080, customer drinking water pipes produced using our Hostalen and Lupolen materials have a service life of 100 years.
Polybutene-1 materials have been selected for pipe applications since the 1960s to address demanding requirements for flexibility, high pressure strength and temperature resistance. With a minimum required strength (MRS) value of greater 12.5 MPa, for an extrapolated lifetime of 50 years at 20°C, the material can be classified PB 125.
More information about our polymer products available for drinking water pipe applications can be found on our polymers site.
